Weight 175lb (79kg)
Born January 20, 1978
Fighting out of Beverly Hills Jiu Jitsu
Town of birth Toronto, Canada
Fighting style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Olga Bakalopoulos (born January 20, 1978 in Toronto, Canada) is a mixed martial artist. She was born in Toronto, Canada, where she lived for 15 years, also living in Greece for 3 years (she is fluent in Greek). She now lives in Los Angeles, California, of which she says "it was always a dream of mine to come".

She states on a female bodybuilding site that "as a teenager I was always interested in sports and strength events", taking part in basketball, field hockey and soccer, among others. At the age of 17, she found inspiration in the female bodybuilder Nikki Fuller - "I thought and still think that that's the way a female is meant to look". She has worked with weights extensively since then, lifting 4 times a week.

She began her martial arts training after a friend introduced her to wrestling. Having competed in that sport, she later took up brazilian jiu-jitsu; she has been trained by 4th degree black belt Marcus Vinicius at the Beverly Hills Jiu Jitsu Club since February 1999. Bakalopoulos then moved into MMA during the year 2000 (she states in an ADCC interview that she started in 1998, but this may refer to her wrestling). When asked by Thomas Gerbasi about women in combat sport, Bakalopoulos replied:

"In every other sport you see women having a place. Women have as much right to be in this as the guys do. In the beginning, it wasn't all that great but now you have women like Lucia Rijker and Laila Ali, they're just phenomenal fighters. Every year the sport gets bigger, more women get into it, and they're saying 'hey, I can do this.' It's going to be awesome."
According to her entry on Fightergirls.net, she counts Bas Rutten and Marco Ruas amongst her former trainers.

Due to her beautiful appearance and her cosy nature, Olga had lots of fans all around the world. Olga was one of the best wrestling and MMA instructors in the world and transmitted her knowledge on several tours around the world. In 2005, Olga retired as a professional MMA fighter and no longer gave private MMA and wrestling lectures.

Mayra Conde (born January 28, 1969 in Guatemala City, Guatemala) is a mixed martial artist, who has also competed in kickboxing, brazilian jiu-jitsu and bodybuilding.

Weight 158lb (72kg)
Born January 28, 1969
Fighting out of The Beverly Hills Jiu-Jitsu Club
Town of birth Guatemala City, Guatemala
Fighting style Brazilian jiu-jitsu, MMA, Kickboxing
Conde hails from Guatemala City, where she grew up on her grandparents' farm. She has spoken fondly of her time there in interviews, as well as citing her grandfather as "my source of strength". However, at the age of nine when her younger brother was born, Conde moved with her parents to Toronto, Canada, hoping for a better education.

Her early years as an immigrant were tough; "I was constantly picked on because I couldn't speak English and was very small". Conde proved up to the challenge, never failing a grade, and is now bilingual, speaking both her native Spanish and adopted English. While still at school, Conde got into sports drinks and nutrition through her father, which led to her becoming a bodybuilder at the age of 16. Her muscular physique proved useful when she moved into construction work after high school. Earning a living as a welder, she would later become a foreman.

In August 1998, despite having no previous grappling experience, Conde still won first place in the women's heavyweight division of Canadian Grapplers Challenge. She says the guillotine choke she bested her first opponent with "was a natural movement when she shot in on me...People asked me how long I had been grappling and I said that I needed to get started." Conde also retained her interest in bodybuilding; the pull of Venice Beach proved irresistible. She left Canada for California along with a friend, Olga Bakalopoulos, who would also become both a weightlifter and mixed martial artist.

California brought Conde her first taste of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, training at the Beverly Hills Jiu Jitsu Club with such luminaries as Mark Kerr and Bas Rutten. Learning from them and another trainer, Marcus Vinicius, she would later fight in the US, Brazil and Greece, and was a part of the groundbreaking all-female Hook N Shoot Revolution promotion.

MMA Women - Laura D'Auguste

MMA - Laura D'Auguste
Laura D'Auguste is a female mixed martial artist. She initially started practising martial arts to protect herself and her daughter from her husband. She also works as a cardiac nurse.

D'Auguste's first experience with martial arts came in April 1996; previously, she had taken ballet and modern dance. Her mother signed her up for a Woman's Safe Seminar at Tiger Schulmann's Karate Center, where she learnt basic grab escapes and strikes. This came at a difficult time for the unemployed D'Auguste, who had recently left an abusive marriage, taking a 3 year old daughter along with her. Her escape to New York from Arizona had to be planned carefully; her husband had threatened to kill her if she ever left.

D'Auguste had already spent all her money on child care and nursing school, but knew she needed further self-defence training. Sensei Peter Guzman, an instructor at the school, made an agreement with D'Auguste that she could work off her tuition fees through various chores at the gym; for example, taking calls, mopping the floors and cleaning the locker room. Soon, she was training regularly, eventually earning her 2nd degree black belt and level 2 Joshu.

D'Auguste began competing in MMA in 2000 for the TSK Fight Team, later becoming the top ranked female fighter in the world. Her last fight was a win against Megumi Yabushita at Smack Girl: Dynamic on 17 August 2005.

With her boxing background, Jennifer is known as a striker.

She won in 20 seconds in the first round.

Sadly, since her last fight was in 2005, I guess she is retired.

MMA - Gina Carano

MMA - Gina Carano
Mean Gina takes center stage in Elite Xtreme Combat

Gina Carano is not your typical MMA fighter.

Then again, the typical woman doesn't beat up other women for a living, either. On Saturday, Carano will continue treading where few -- if any -- women have ever gone.

Carano, a 24-year-old Las Vegas native, will participate in the first women's MMA fight for Elite Xtreme Combat in that group's debut show in Southaven, Miss. EXC will air live on Showtime, which is also a first for that network.

For Carano, being a female MMA fighter usually means that people will judge her not just for her fighting skills, but for her looks.

"I think by this time in my life, I am pretty used to it," Carano said. "Everybody's got their own opinion. As long as I am eventually loved by one person, then I am okay."

A comment about her appearance was the spark that lit the fire for Carano to start training for Muay Thai and MMA fighting. She went to Master Toddy's Muay Thai Academy with her then-boyfriend to watch him do some pad work with his trainers. Master Toddy's assistant, Master Chan, introduced himself to Carano in a way she will never forget.

Roxanne Modafferi - Female MMA

Roxanne Modafferi - Female MMA

Roxanne V. Modafferi (born September 24, 1982) is an American mixed martial artist.

Modafferi's training began in taekwondo as a teenager in Pennsylvania, moving on to Mark Lawler's kempo karate two years later. Full of confidence, she then began attending the Dalton Judo Club in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Her description of the experience is; "I thought I was all cool, like the movie stars, but then I learned what it was like to fly". She went on to gain a brown belt in the style, but her training was cut short when she left to study at the University of Massachusetts. Three months before her studies began, a fellow brown belt brought her to a Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu association in Adams, Massachusetts, where she trained intensively for three months.

Modafferi majored in Japanese Language and Literature with a minor in Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts. While at college, she found the Amherst Athletic club, where New England Submission Fighting is based. In addition, she trained at another Royce Gracie association in Hartford, Connecticut for about a year (necessitating a weekly two hour round trip), also investigating Jeremy Libiszewski's School of Self-Defence in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Next came Joao Amaral's New England BJJ club, now associated with Brazilian Top Team; Modafferi says "Those guys are tough as concrete is hard, and beat my weaknesses out of me when they found them". To work on her striking, she also attended the Sityodtong Muay Thai Academy's North American branch in Somerville, Massachusetts, run by Kru Mark DellaGrotte.

Modafferi spent September 2003 to June 2004, her junior year, in Tokyo, Japan. This enabled her to compete in a number of NHB and BJJ competitions, where she eventually achieved a 3-0 record in the Smack Girl promotion and defeated Jennifer Howe (who at that time was considered the best in the US, if not the world) in Hook n Shoot. In Japan she trained at the Cross Point club in Kichijouji, which taught both muay thai and BJJ. She hopes one day to write a book about her experiences during that time, having already contributed several articles on the topic. After graduating in May 2005, she secured a position with Berlitz teaching English in Japan, arriving for the second time in July 2005.

Her last fight was a win by split decision against Cassandra Blaso at Fatal Femmes Fighting, on 2 February 2007.
