Julie Kedzie

I haven't had anything here about female mma fighter Julie Kedzie in a while.
So why not do something now?
Julie is trained in Taekwondo (third degree black belt), Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Since my last write up on her, her last win was over Angela Hayes at Battlequest 8 on April 11, 2008.
But on March 14th, she lost to Sarah Schneider by a round one tapout due to a Rear Naked Choke.

Gina Carano versus Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos?

Now that Gina Carano has defeated Kelly Kobald, the MMA fans are clammoring for a new bout.
Gina Carano versus Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.
Santos fairly easily crushed Yoko Takahashi, while Kobald gave Carano a run for her money, even winning one round in a judge's opinion.
Now is the stage set for Carano versus Santos?
The Face of women's MMA against The Destroyer?
You have to admit, the hype around this sounds almost like a Hollywood movie.
No offense to either women (I think they are both pretty in their own way), but it feels almost like Rocky and Clubber Lang in Rocky 3.

MMA pioneer Debi Purcell on Sexton, road to mainstream TV | MMAFighting.com

Debi Purcell, boxing kung fu, fighting, mma

Interviews - MMA pioneer Debi Purcell on Sexton, road to mainstream TV | MMAFighting.com:

"In late 2007, Muscle and Fitness HERS wrote an article about female fitness role models entitled, “Women Strength”. The article opened by introducing readers to four women that were the class of their sports.

'Skateboarding has Tony Hawk. Women's soccer has Mia Hamm. And if female mixed martial arts (MMA) ever goes mainstream, it will have Debi Purcell,' the magazine said.

Unfortunately, when female MMA first did go mainstream the woman most credited for helping to start and keep the sport alive wasn’t getting the fights on television. Purcell, whose website FighterGirls.com helped keep the sport vibrant in the dark years was notably absent."

One-on-one with Rosi Sexton, PhD (Part I) | Fight Ticker

Exclusive: One-on-one with Rosi Sexton, PhD (Part I) | Fight Ticker:

"A few mixed martial artists have been heralded for their high educational accomplishments. But no elite mixed martial artist can come close to the level of education held by professional mixed martial artist, Rosi Sexton, who makes her home in the United Kingdom.

Coming off the heels of a tough split decision victory over Debi Purcell, the 9-1 EliteXC competitor took time to chat with me about everything from school to fighting to family. With a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge and PhD in theoretical computer science from the University of Manchester, this fighter, healer, and mother breaks down her multitude of specialties. Oh, and while building her pro MMA career, she’s simultaneously finishing up another professional degree in osteopathy. Those darn over achievers!"

TUFF, Tidewater Ultimate Female Fighting

For local group of amateur women wrestlers, this is 'real fighting'
By ROBERTA T. VOWELL, The Virginian-Pilot

Foxx is pounding Tazz into the floor.
The women are locked in combat on a wrestling mat in the back room of an office space in Virginia Beach.
Foxx has her muscular legs wrapped around Tazz's rib cage and is slowly squeezing the breath out of the smaller woman.
Tazz's mother leans forward from her folding chair on the sidelines.
"Pop a shoulder into her neck," mom urges. "C'mon, Tazz, make me proud."
But Tazz is fighting for air, her short gasps punctuating her mother's shouts.
"Tap out," Foxx says, "and you won't have to puke."
Tazz takes another sputtering breath, then raises her hand and lets her palm slap on the floor, blue-painted fingernails bouncing. Surrender.

Eesha Narang (Isha Koppikar) - Tae Kwon Do

Eesha Narang (Isha Koppikar) - Tae Kwon DoBollywood actress Eesha Narang has had more names than you can shake a stick at.
She has apppeared as Ishaa Kopikar, Isha Kopikar, Eesha Koppikar, Eesha Koppikhar and Eesha Timmy Narang.
I think it has to do with both numerology and getting married.
This lovely young lady from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India has a martial arts background...

"I start my day with Taekwondo and dancing."
http://www.your-martial-arts-resources.com/martial-arts-celebrities.html

Kanishka Sharma, a 29-year-old martial-arts expert, who choreographed the fight sequence in Don, has had doctors, teachers and designers punching and puffing at his Shaolin Chan Academy at Andrews Ganj . “Viveik Oberoi and Isha Koppikar too have shown interest in learning kickboxing,” says Sharma.
http://www.kickboxing.martialarm.com/

“But Shabri has more than made up for that,’ she says, after a pause, and elaborates: “Unlike the action in Don with its harness and cables, the action in Shabri is more real and raw, minus the technology. It’s back to boxes and sacks to break your falls. I was well-prepared for it as I’m a red belt in Taek Won Do and practise regularly.”

Maritery Batista ( I wonder if she's related to Dave?) is a mixed martial artist, nicknamed 'The Amazon' due to her considerable height and disposition in the ring.
After starting out in kickboxing and taekwondo, Batista was later trained in brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts. After only a month of training, she achieved first place in her debut no-gi tournament against another female with 6 years more experience than her. This led to many other successes in the prestigious NAGA and other national grappling tournaments in the US, meaning that Batista was eventually ranked the 7th best national female no-gi fighter in the US, according to MMA.tv, with little more than a year's worth of experience. Batista is a certified personal trainer with multiple nationally recognized associations and is focused greatly in Sports Performance Training for martial artists.
Batista also holds a Masters degree in the study of International Business from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently continuing her education in the field of sports medicine. Batista opened her first martial arts studio in 2004 in her native Florida. Since then, she has enabled to open a Marketing Firm, B&B Global as well introduce a new Fitness Chain called DynamicFX.
DynamicFX brings forth her love for personal training and martial arts out for other South Floridians to enjoy.
