Jamie Chung and Stacy Keibler in Samurai Girl

Jamie Chung and Stacy Keibler in Samurai Girl

Okay, this isn't really MMA, but it is martial arts related.

ABC Family will be airing Samurai Girl over a three day weekend starting September 5, 2008.
The series stars Jamie Chung as Samurai Girl (Heaven) and Stacy Keibler as her arch rival.
The mini series is based on a series of fictional books written by Carrie Asai.

Jamie was born born April 10, 1983. She has been in several series including The Real World: San Diego and its spinoff show, Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II, Days of Our Lives, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, CSI: New York and Veronica Mars. Jamie will also be in the Dragonball movie playing Chi Chi.

Her arch rival is played by Stacy Keibler. Stacy is an American actress and former professional wrestler and valet for WCW and the WWE.

Since sword fights will most likely abound in the mini series, I imagine both women had to undergo some training.

Why Televised Female MMA is Just A Gimmick

Now here's an article a few female mixed martial artists might have a problem with......

Why Televised Female MMA is Just A Gimmick

EliteXCs failed attempt at making female MMA popular simply highlights the lack of interest in women fighting and sports overall. I’ve got nothing against "equality" in a realistic sense, but by and large female sports will not attract the same level of viewers that male sports do because women cannot perform at a level that makes it interesting to a mass audience.

Cat Albert - Female Mixed Martial Arts

Cat Albert is a female mixed martial artist from Colorado.

" Cat Albert is already a favorite on the MMA circuit for good reason. Not only is Cat a well-trained, strategic and talented competitor but she is also beautiful and seemingly unscarred from her trips to the ring. It would be easy to dismiss the athletic prowess of such an attractive woman but that would be a mistake. Cat has dominated every sport she has been exposed to since she was a child."

She has a VERY nice website here:

Miku Matsumoto: One Busy Woman

Miku Matsumoto: One Busy Woman
Friday, August 15, 2008
by Tony Loiseleur (tloiseleur@sherdog.com)

Is Miku Matsumoto a woman on a mission or a woman who just really loves what she does? Maybe she’s both.
As the women’s lightweight champion in Deep, Matsumoto has achieved a surprising level of success in a few short years. This is especially astonishing when one considers the fact that most Japanese women with an interest in fisticuffs tend to hold down jobs outside of fighting professionally, leaving mixed martial arts as little more than a time-consuming hobby.

And yes this is the same Debbie Purcell that started Fightergirls.net and the WMAA (Women's Martial Arts Association).

'Cuddles' tough to face in the octagon

'Cuddles' tough to face in the octagon:

"SPRINGFIELD — Jan Finney's nickname doesn't suit her very well.

She isn't known as 'Cuddles' because she's sweet as honey in the cage.

The 5-foot-7, 135-pound mixed martial arts fighter earned the moniker because she's always injuring her male sparring partners.

On one occasion, she cut a male fighter's eye open. Another time, she 'moused' a fighter's eye.

'It's kind of an oxymoron,' Finney said. 'I'm kind of like Lenny from 'Of Mice and Men.' '"
