MMA Women - Julia Budd

The number two ranked Featherweight MMA fighter in the world, Julia "The Jewel" Budd (10-2-0).
Julia was born on July 4th, 1983 in Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada.

She is five foot eight and weighs 145 pounds and was/is the first Bellator Women's Featherweight champion.
Julia started out in Muay Thai and is the only woman to defeat Gina Carano in Muay Thai competition.
In MMA, the only two women she has lost to are Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes, which is pretty impressive.

Rose "Thug Rose" Namajunas Defeats Michelle "The Karate Hottie" Waterson

On Saturday night, April 15 2017, Rose "Thug Rose" Namajunas pounded Michelle "The Karate Hottie" Waterson at UFC on FOX 24 live on FOX from inside Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri
Michelle got a sweep takedown in the first round but after that it was all Rose.
She gave the "Karate Hottie" a head kick that floored her and from there it was ground-and-pound and a rear-naked choke finish.
Rose now goes to on to face the winner of the Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade fight later this year.

Also, as opposed to some MMA fights we have seen lately, these two ladies showed real class after the fight.

Ana Julaton - Women Fighters

Like a lot of other female MMA fighters, Filipino-American Ana Julaton started out as a female boxer.
As a boxer, Ana has a 14-4-2 record.
But in 2014, she signed a contract with ONE FC to fight in MMA for them.
Not without reason though, Ana has a black belt in Bok Fu and also a black belt in Taekwondo.
Her current MMA record is 2-2-0 and her last MMA fight was in 2015.
Ana was born on July 5th, 1980 in San Francisco, California.

Valentina Shevchenko - MMA

The most popular woman on this blog in February was Valentina Anatolievna Shevchenko aka Valentina "Bullet" Shevchenko.
She just barely beat out Lena "the Hunter" Ovchynnikova.
Valentina is a Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian muay thai fighter and mixed martial arts fighter, born on March 7th, 1988 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Her MMA record at the moment is 14-2-0 and she has wins over Julianna Pena, Holly Holm and Sarah Kaufman.

Megan Anderson vs Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 21

Megan Anderson (7-2) will take on Charmaine Tweet (9-5) at Invicta FC 21 in a 145-pound main event on Saturday, January 14th in Kansas City.
One....I don't guess who will win anymore in MMA fights.
Have I even been right yet?
Two...I like both of these ladies.
So I don't want to say that either will win.
So good luck to them both.

UFC 207: Nunes vs Rousey - Results

Well it's a good thing that I didn't predict the UFC 207: Nunes vs Rousey fight.
Again.
I really thought that Amanda would win...but not in 48 seconds with a KO.

And I really didn't think that Amanda would almost immediately go to Twitter and post this....

And here I thought Ronda was a bad sport.

UFC 207: Nunes vs Rousey

At UFC 207: Nunes vs Rousey, on December 30, 2016 at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, we get...well... Ronda Rousey vs Amanda Nunes.
I quit trying to predict MMA fights a long time ago.
Actually after Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg...I just gave up.

Amanda is 13-4-0 and coming off a 4 win streak.

This will be Ronda's first fight since her loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 - Rousey vs. Holm in November of 2015.

Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc - Women Fighters

I haven't done anything on MMA fighter Nicdali "The Night Queen" Rivera-Calanoc since 2102.
Currently she has a 9-9-0 record and though she announced her retirement in 2014, she has come back for two more fights, winning her last one against Ronni Nanney at FCF - Freestyle Cage Fighting 51 on March 12th, 2016.
Oh yeah...she is also a model.

Jessica Alba - Celebrity Women Fighters

I haven't done a celebrity Martial Arts entry here in a while, so here is one.
I know that I read that Jessica Alba did Tae Bo a few years ago.
But then I read that she was actually in Tae Kwon Do.
Now I have heard that she practices Krav Maga.
And she was also quoted in an interview recently as saying, "I've learned a bunch of different disciplines in martial arts"
So I guess she is good.

By the way....
Jessica Alba has had enough of your crap Johnny!

Rachael Ostovich - Women Fighters

Female MMA fighter Rachael Ostovich likes to dress up like Wonder Woman and fight people.
No...really.
She is five foot three, 126 pounds and has a 4-3-0 MMA record.

Back to the Wonder Woman thing...
I have to give her props because she cares enough to do a photo shoot pose imitating one of my favorite WW pics ever, done by Alex Ross.

Though she doesnt always dress up like Wondy....

Alexa Grasso - Women MMA Fighters

Alexa Grasso is cute.
Yeah I know she is a grown woman and a MMA fighter with an 8-0-0 record.
And 4 of those 8 wins were knockouts.

But I mean seriously...look at how cute she is.
She is Mary-Louise Parker cute and to me that is pretty damn cute.

Anyway, Alexa was born on August 9, 1993 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
She is a strawweight that fights for the UFC.
Alexa is 5 foot 5 and weighs 115 pounds.

And she's cute.

Holly Holm to debut at UFC 181

Female boxer turned UFC MMA fighter Holly Holm will debut at UFC 181: Hendricks vs. Lawler II on December 6, 2014 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Her opponent will be Raquel Pennington (4-4-0).
I have liked Holly ever since her boxing days.
She is 33-2-3 in boxing and 7-0-0 in MMA so far.
And yes...a lot of people are talking about Holly vs Ronda.
Which is a much better idea than Rousey vs Carano.

Female MMA Fighters - Barb Honchak Yet Again!

You know sometimes I get too carried away with myself.
I miss a lot (okay...almost all) the fight predictions.
But sometimes I can actually call them.
Case in point is Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak.
I did a write up on her way back on October 11th, 2011 and now she is the the number one ranked Flyweight fighter in the world by MMARising.com.
In the first article she was 5-1-0 and today she is 9-2-0.
Oh yeah....and she is number 6 in the Top 15 Women’s Pound-For-Pound MMA Rankings there as well.
It just feels good to point out someone like that and see them go to the top.

Miesha Tate, Marloes Coenen and Zoila Frausto

Zoila Frausto - MMA - mma fighter - MMA fighters

The Bellator 115-pound women’s champ Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto will be fighting at the Bellator Fighting Championships 35 on March 5th in Lemoore, California, but it wont be for the belt.
Zolia will be taking on Karina Hallinan in a non title bout there.
Zolia is 10-1-0 and her opponent Karina is 3-4-0.
Interestingly enough, the two faced each other once before, when they both made their MMA debuts.
It was at Wargods/Ken Shamrock Productions - The Valentine's Eve Massacre on February 13th, 2009 at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California.
Zolia won by a controversial split decision.
What is it with Zolia and "controversial" decisions?
I have read that her fight with Karina had a questionable outcome and so did her fights with Jessica Aguilar and Megumi Fujii.
So really what is going on with her?
Three of her ten wins are questionable?
Are officials handing out victories to her?
Do MMA fans have something against her?

In other news, Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes made her Strikeforce debut at Strikeforce - Challengers 13 on January 7th, 2011 at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee and KOed Julia Budd in fourteen seconds of the first round.
Pretty impressive debut huh?
This moves Amanda to 6-1-0 and drops Julia to 1-1-0.
This also gives Amanda an undefeated streak since her loss to Ana Maria (3-4-0) in her debut back on March 8th, 2008 at Prime - MMA Championship 2 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.
Does Amanda have Strikeforce champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in her sights?
I would imagine so.

And finally, a match a lot of MMA fans are looking forward to will happen on March 5th at Strikeforce: Columbus (the same night as Bellator Fighting Championships 35...hmmmm).
Marloes “Rumina” Coenen will be talking on Miesha “Takedown” Tate.
Marloes is 18-4-0 and her last fight was a win over Sarah Kaufman via submission at Strikeforce - Diaz vs. Noons 2 on October 9th, 2010 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Miesha's last fight was a win over Hitomi Akano by decision at Strikeforce - Challengers 10 on August 13th, 2010 at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, United States.
The match will be for the Strikeforce 135-pound title.
