Kyra Gracie - Brazilian Jujitsu

Everyone seems to like Kyra Gracie so much I thought I'd post a couple more photos of her.
But remember, while Kyra is a very attractive young lady, she is also a member of the Gracie family, of which I'd say about 90% could put most people in an ER in about 5 seconds.( I say 90% because I am sure there are some small children in the Gracie family that haven't learned to walk yet.)
AND Kyra herself is a 5 Time Brazilian Champion (98,99,00,01,04); 5 Time State Champion (98,99,00,01,02); World Champion (2004); ADCC Champion (2005); 4 Time Pan American Champion (01,02,03,05).

Dr. Laura Schlessinger - Black Belt

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a martial arts black belt.

"When I do anything, I do it one hundred percent," she told us, and that is no less true for her religious life than for her martial arts practice (at age fifty, she has a recently attained black belt in karate).
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:IporSP1wqLoJ:www.wie.org/j12/laura.asp+Dr.+Laura+Schlessinger+karate&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

She is a tiny, karate-kickin’ perfect physical specimen, tireless and "hypereducated" (her term).
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:xpwBnN8I1cYJ:choppedliverproductions.com/rants/dr-laura.html+Dr.+Laura+Schlessinger+karate&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us

Dr. Laura is a wife, and, of course, she is her kid's mom. She is also a black belt in karate. Whether there is a relation between those two things I will let her say.

And she rattled on constantly about taking karate lessons, much like someone who’s, um, found religion. She seemed like a person who could easily cross the line between enthusiasm and obsession.

Madonna

Madonna takes karate classes ( Why not? I think she has studied everything else under the sun.)
Her husband Guy Ritchie got her into it, so Madonna and her daughter Lourdes are both studying.
I read one place that she had her black belt, but I don't know if this is true or not. The way she throws herself into things though, I wouldn't doubt it.
But you know, I see Madonna as more of a MMA person....

I think it has to do with both numerology and getting married.
This lovely young lady from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India has a martial arts background...

"I start my day with Taekwondo and dancing."
http://www.your-martial-arts-resources.com/martial-arts-celebrities.html

Kanishka Sharma, a 29-year-old martial-arts expert, who choreographed the fight sequence in Don, has had doctors, teachers and designers punching and puffing at his Shaolin Chan Academy at Andrews Ganj . “Viveik Oberoi and Isha Koppikar too have shown interest in learning kickboxing,” says Sharma.

“But Shabri has more than made up for that,’ she says, after a pause, and elaborates: “Unlike the action in Don with its harness and cables, the action in Shabri is more real and raw, minus the technology. It’s back to boxes and sacks to break your falls. I was well-prepared for it as I’m a red belt in Taek Won Do and practise regularly.”

Emma Bunton ( Baby Spice) - Martial Arts

Emma Bunton ( Baby Spice)

Emma Lee Bunton is an English pop singer, songwriter, and occasional actress. Emma is best known for being a member of the successful '90s girl group, Spice Girls. Emma was known as "Baby Spice", in the group, as she was the youngest member, had an "innocent" demeanour, and often wore "baby doll" dresses.

Bunton was born in Finchley and grew up in Woodside Park, both in Barnet, London. Her parents, Pauline, a karate instructor, and Trevor, a milkman, split up when she was eleven, and she stayed with her mother who runs a Gojukai Karate club.
(Goju Kai Karate is very similar in techniques and Katas to Goju Ryu. Goju Kai places more emphasis on the sport side of training rather than the body conditioning and the supplementary exercises of Goju Ryu.)
Her mother has reportedly trained Emma to a "very high standard".

It figures, " Baby Spice" would be the deadly one.

Cynthia Rothrock - Female Martial Arts

Cynthia Rothrock - Female Martial Arts

Cynthia Rothrock (born 8 March 1957) is an American actress specializing in Martial arts films. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and was brought up in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She is five-time (and undefeated) World Karate Champion in forms and weapons between 1981 and 1985. These categories are not combat-orientated, being displays of fluidity of movement rather than fighting, and are therefore not segregated into male and female categories but fully open to both sexes.

She holds five Black belts in various Far Eastern martial disciplines, including Tang Soo Do (also "tangsudo", Korean), Tae Kwon Do (Korean), Eagle Claw (Chinese), Wu Shu (contemporary Chinese), and Northern Shaolin (classical Chinese). She also works as a martial arts instructor.

Northern California was her home in 1983 where she worked with the West Coast Demonstration Team. At this time Golden Harvest was searching in Los Angeles for the next Bruce Lee. Rothrock's forms and maneuvers were observed and the Golden Harvest signed a contract with her. It was two years (1985) later that she made her first martial arts movie for them, Huang gu shi jie (also known as Yes Madam or In the Line of Duty Part 2) which also starred Michelle Yeoh. It proved to be a box office success. She ended up staying in Hong Kong until 1988 doing seven films there. She may be the first Caucasian actor that ever had a lead role in a Chinese picture as a "good guy." At the time, the typical role for Caucasian was cast as either the bad guy or as comic relief.

Rothrock became one of the few Caucasian performers to achieve genuine stardom in the local Hong Kong film industry before achieving success in their own country. Producer Pierre David initiated Rothrock's move to the American turf. David offered her a costarring role with Chad McQueen in Martial Law, Rothrock's first U.S. production. For the next ten years led successful career in B-grade action movies. Her films include China O'Brien and China O'Brien 2, Guardian Angel, Honor & Glory, No Retreat, No Surrender 2 and Prince of the Sun amongst a roster of thirty films. Rothrock also appeared as Bertha Jo in the 1997 television film The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion. She was an inspiration for the video game characters Sonya Blade[citation needed] of Mortal Kombat and also King of SNK's The King of Fighters and Art of Fighting games, and lent her voice on the animated series Eek the Cat.

Rothrock's stated that, "throughout my life, I've been opening the door for other women to get involved with this (martial arts movies). I was the first woman to be on the cover of a karate magazine and the first woman to win a men's championship."

Angela Mao - Martial Arts Superstar

Angela Mao - Martial Arts Superstar
Angela Mao (born September 20, 1950 in Taiwan) is a martial arts film actress best known for the string of kung fu films in which she starred during the 1970s. She is also known as Mao Ying, Angela Mao Ying, and Mao Fu Ying.

She is the daughter of Mao Yung Kang, Peking Opera star, who escaped China to Taiwan in 1949. Angela was originally a Chinese opera actress before becoming an action film actress; at a young age she attended ballet classes before joining The Fu Shing Peking Opera in 1958.

Mao trained in hapkido and other martial arts at an early age . This would later help her achieve success in martial art movies. When she was 17, Huang Feng (an action movie director known for discovering Sammo Hung and Carter Wong) discovered her. Feng was looking for a young woman who knew martial arts to be the leading lady for his upcoming sword fight film, called Angry River.

With her experience in acting and martial arts, Angela quickly began taking leading roles in other action movies in Golden Harvest productions including Hapkido, Lady Whirlwind, and The Fate of Lee Khan (directed by the late King Hu). She was also successful in other movies such as The Association, The Himalayans and many others. Despite this her films were not been released in America and because of this she was unknown to the western movie audience. This would soon change in 1973.

Internationally, she found fame for her role as the doomed sister of Bruce Lee's character in 1973's Enter the Dragon. Although Bruce Lee died shortly after the production of the movie, Mao was able to train and develop a friendship with Lee. Although she was not able to go to his funeral because she was in Taipei at the time, buying her parents a house.

Following the incredible success to her short-lived role in 1973s Enter The Dragon many of her films began to be released in the west. Hapkido was the first to gain this wider audience. The film also starred Carter Wong, Sammo Hung, her real life teacher Hwang In-Shik and also Ji Han Jae. Also working on Hapkido were an uncredited 'bootmaster' Leung Siu-Lung who was helping Sammo with the fight choreography and a stuntman/actor who also worked as stuntman in Enter the Dragon, known today as Jackie Chan.

Angela Mao continued with string a of successful movies through the seventies. Angela along side with actor Carter Wong became a bit of a kung fu duo act in a series of kung fu classic movies. One of most popular movies made by them was When Taekwondo Strikes which was also the only film ever made by Supreme Master Jhoon Rhee. Mao spent time training with Rhee during the making of this movie. After her Golden Harvest contract expired, she returned to Taiwan and for the next five years she continued to make kung fu movies.

Mao married her long time boyfriend, Kelly Lau before retiring from the movie industry.

Mao has been presented with an 'honorary' second degree black belt in Hapkido in recognition of her work in promoting Hapkido technique to the world and for being the art's most honorable, heroic and beautiful female representative.
